Video and codecs

Video files.mp4, .mov, .mkv, .avi, .webm, .m4v, .mpg, .mpeg, .wmv, .flv, .ogv, .ts, .m2ts, .mxf
Hardware decodeDirect3D 11 (D3D11VA) on Windows, VideoToolbox on macOS, VA-API on Linux — for whichever codecs the machine's GPU decodes, typically H.264 and HEVC, and VP9 or AV1 on newer GPUs. On Windows and macOS the decoded picture stays on the GPU.
10-bit inputHEVC Main 10, VP9 Profile 2 and 10-bit AV1 on the Windows GPU path, with an SDR conversion fallback where the renderer needs it
HAPHAP in .mov is read straight to the GPU with no decoder, and every frame is a keyframe
Everything elseDecoded on the processor by FFmpeg, which comes with every download — ProRes, DNxHR and the rest play, at a higher CPU cost
Stills.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .webp, .bmp, .gif, .tif, .tiff, .avif, .heic, .heif
SlidesPDF, one cue per page, rendered once at import by the operating system's own PDF engine; PowerPoint (.pptx, .ppt, .pps, .ppsx), Keynote (.key) and OpenDocument (.odp) decks the same way, converted by PowerPoint, Keynote or LibreOffice on the machine
Live sourcesCameras, application windows and screens, web pages, NDI, SRT, RTMP, RTSP, UDP, Blackmagic DeckLink capture, Spout (Windows)
GeneratedTest patterns; Moiré with six shapes, four palettes and oscillators; Fireside, Portal and Swirl with live palettes, colour bands, reverse speed, twist, flow, zoom, centre and density, a video synth, live-coded pictures, timers, lower thirds and tone
Code sourcesEditable render width and height independent of output geometry; incomplete expressions hold the last good picture
Effects42 video effects, levels and curves among them, with oscillator-driven parameters; keying, grading and effects apply immediately on playing or paused cues
Transitions17 cue-to-cue styles; each picture retains its fit, crop, scale, rotation, opacity, effect look and layer corner pins. Playing files without a grade or picture effects continue through the outgoing transition; the playlist fader and mutes follow both cues, including ASIO. Recordings and streams take incoming audio at TAKE.

Output

DestinationsDisplays (windowed or fullscreen), NDI, SRT, RTMP, RTSP and UDP streams, Blackmagic DeckLink SDI where the Blackmagic driver is installed, Spout (Windows), SMPTE ST 2110
Formats720p at 50, 59.94 and 60; 1080i at 50, 59.94 and 60; 1080p and 2160p at 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94 and 60
Refresh matchingWhole-number and fractional rates are matched separately: 30 fps uses 30 or 60 Hz; 29.97 uses 29.97 or 59.94 Hz.
Bit depth8-bit or 10-bit
Colour and SDISDR: limited-range BT.709 UYVY (8-bit) or v210 (10-bit), with scheduled DeckLink video and stereo 48 kHz audio. HDR: floating-point composition and Rec.2020 PQ/HLG on a 10-bit DeckLink route; card validation pending. See HDR paths and requirements.
SMPTE ST 2110ST 2110-20 uncompressed video and ST 2110-30 (AES67) 48 kHz stereo audio, with independent video/audio transport controls, AMWA NMOS IS-04 registration and IS-05 connection management, and PTP media clock acquisition and reacquisition
Decks and outputsUp to 16 playlists, each output showing whichever one you choose, or several composited as layers; a multiview you arrange yourself
MappingPer-output corner-pin or grid warp; a perspective or linear corner pin per layer. Gamma-correct edge blending, adjustable projector gamma and black lift, and paired overlap to set two outputs' areas of interest and blends together. The warp editor previews the selected output in the programme monitor. Older shows retain their saved linear blend curve.
Test cardsA card drawn 1:1 at each output's raster, with pixel checks, bars, PLUGE, safe areas, moving checks and frame count; HDR patches on HDR outputs. Export H.264 movies for each canvas output and the whole canvas.
Picture scopesWaveform, RGB/Y′CbCr parades, vectorscope, histogram and EBU R 103 gamut checks. Select the source output; each new source picture is analysed, with source, analysis and output rates in the footer. HDR is measured in nits. SDI and ST 2110 scopes can measure the encoded Y′CbCr 4:2:2 signal at its output depth.
Operator screensPresenter view and a mirrored prompter, each an output of its own
Control deskCompact cue rows and full-width focused deck tabs when columns cannot fit; CLEAR immediately stops all decks, cancels queued takes and disarms output

HDR: input to output

On Windows, combine a PQ or HLG feed with SDR graphics in a floating-point output. Graphics sit at 203 nits by default, adjustable from 80 to 500 nits. Choose PQ or HLG as the output signal. HDR10 and HLG sources are automatically converted for SDR outputs.

HDR inputHDR files and stream cues on Windows. Set a live stream's HDR input explicitly to SDR, PQ or HLG; live streams are not probed. macOS and Linux currently convert HDR input to SDR.
HDR screensWindows Direct3D 11/scRGB on an HDR-capable display with HDR enabled in the OS. OFF, AUTO or ON per output. The status reports the active path and display headroom. HDR window output on macOS/Linux is implemented through SDL GPU but unverified.
SRT / RTMPHEVC Main10, BT.2020, PQ or HLG from a stream output mirroring an HDR output. RTMP requires a server and receiver that support enhanced RTMP with HEVC.
ST 2110-2010-bit 4:2:2 with BT.2100 colourimetry and PQ/HLG transfer declared in SDP. Software packet pacing and PTP; facility timing and receiver interoperability must be checked on the intended network.
DeckLink SDI10-bit v210 with Rec.2020 and PQ/HLG metadata. Implemented and packing-checked; not yet tested on a physical DeckLink card. Key/fill stays SDR.
NDI / Web MonitorSDR output, including when sourced from an HDR output. HDR over NDI requires a separate Advanced SDK licence that Deckboy does not use.
Measured performancePQ and HLG feed + graphic + SRT delivery measured at 1080p60 and 2160p60 on Windows with an RTX 4070. HDR greys arrived within one code and graphics white at the 203-nit code. This is a measured configuration, not a throughput guarantee for every GPU or effect stack.

Recording

WhatThe programme, as it plays, while it goes to every other output
CodecsH.264 and HEVC in .mp4; Apple ProRes Proxy, LT, 422, HQ and 4444 and Avid DNxHR LB, SQ, HQ and HQX in .mov
FormatAny size and frame rate, or the programme's own
HDR recordingAn HDR output records in PQ (HDR10) or HLG using HEVC Main10; ProRes and DNxHR HQX retain their selected codec and signal tags. Hardware HEVC 10-bit encoding uses a working NVENC, Quick Sync or AMF encoder when available, with software fallback. Windows converts for the encoder on the GPU.
TimecodeStamped from a set start or time of day, drop or non-drop frame
SegmentsSplit into files by length or by size

Audio

Sample rate44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 or 192 kHz, chosen in Settings
Audio files.mp3, .wav, .flac, .aac, .ogg, .oga, .m4a, .opus, .wma, .aiff
Output channels2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 32, 64 or 128 per deck device — a full Dante or MADI rig
RoutingA stereo pair per cue, or a per-cue crosspoint matrix to any channel, stepped off, full, −3, −6 and −12 dB
Processing23 audio effects per cue, and your own VST3 effects and instruments in the same chain
Loudness normalizationSelectable −16, −23 (EBU R128) and −24 LUFS targets
Programme meteringMomentary, short-term and integrated LUFS; true peak and a true-peak guard on the mixed output
InputA microphone or line input, by device; Mic cues put live input through a playlist's fades, routing and effect chain. Clock matching keeps long-running music inputs steady.
CaptionsLocal speech transcription for files and live audio. Live captions follow the selected input, deck or output mix, with one to three rolling lines, top/bottom positioning and optional .srt transcript. Typical delay is about two seconds and depends on the machine.
